Editorial Issue 2.2

 

To the greatest extent many aspects of our daily lives are based on experience and observation. Education is the first to create a mixture between experience, observation and basic science. We call the result common sense. It is not difficult to realise that common sense is evolving with history. A century ago our common sense will probably declare that, the massive 8.9/9.0 magnitude earthquake that hit the Pacific Ocean nearby Northeastern Japan at around 2:46pm on March 11 (JST), would most certainly have left Japan beyond recognition. Yet, Japan performed so well while most deaths and devastation is attributed to the tsunami rather to the eartquake.

 

Research allowed the Japanese people to remain calm inside their buildings during the event. Research allowed the emergency services to be able to operate. Research allowed their nuclear reactors to sustain such impact without catastrophic consequences. Research has taught them to say our common sense says we are going to survive the second largest earthquake of modern history.

 

I put these two paragraphs as an answer to those who claim that research is “money in the bin”. Our history is full of such examples.

 

I also want to express, along with every member of our Editorial Advisory Board, our most sincere condolences to those survived only to remember their loved ones.

Πολύ ενδιαφέρον το θέμα,

 

Αυτό το άρθρο νομίζω ότι μπορεί να βοηθήσει να σχηματίσουμε μιά γρήγορη εικόνα για το πώς έχει διεθνώς η κατάσταση.

 

Πάντως, ως γνωστόν, στην Ελλάδα υπάρχει σοβαρό ιδεολογικό πρόβλημα με τα
